Tip-run, from the shore. JetChaser Purple Edition, out in September
Tip-run is thought of as a boat technique. Cast the same JetChaser from the shore and what you need is not special tackle but a change in the sequence. Take the bottom once, then five or six jerks and slide sideways. The hit came on size 2.6 in Red Aji Orange, waiting on a tension fall. In September 2026 that JetChaser gains the Purple Edition — five colours. New sizes 3.0 and 3.1 follow from late September.

Purple Edition, and shore tip-run
In September 2026 the JetChaser gains the Purple Edition — five colours in sizes 2.5 and 2.6 — and the much-requested sizes 3.0 (22g) and 3.1 (24g) start shipping from late September. Keystone evangelist Tsutsumi shows the sequence of shore tip-run with that JetChaser cast from the rocks. The tackle is an 8.5 ft M-class rod, a 2500 reel and PE 0.6 — “ordinary shore tackle”. Take the bottom once, then five or six jerks and slide sideways. “Active squid follow it up, so there's no need to find the bottom again.” On a high platform with a crosswind, the hit came on size 2.6 in Red Aji Orange, waiting on a tension fall.

The colours and the sizes
The Red Aji Orange cast that day and the five colours arriving in September share the same body, the same weight and the same crown hook, so that day's sequence is exactly how the new colours are fished. Tackle on the day: an Olympic Calamaretti 8.5 ft M-class rod, a Daiwa Caldia 2500 reel and PE 0.6.
Sizes 3.0 (22g) and 3.1 (24g) are the step up that was often asked for. The larger body carries more buoyancy, bringing the balance closer to the ideal, and adds a comfort in handling that 2.5 and 2.6 cannot give. The 3.1 first appeared as a prototype in October 2024 and took shape through small-lot sales under REVOLT®, with feedback from the people who fished it. In a session during development (the December 2024 record) it is described as “24 grams, so the jerk feels clean and crisp” and “the start of the movement is even sharper than the DayBreak 3.3” — and when the bites went quiet, dropping to this size brought hit after hit. Its places: early autumn, and the deep water of winter.
The head shape differs by size: 2.5 and 3.0 have a flat face that deliberately takes the water's resistance, so in shallow water, or when casting from a boat that is not drifting to cover ground, the egi does not come back towards you so quickly and can be worked slowly. 2.6 and 3.1 have a head that cuts the water, for anything from shallow to deep. Size 3.1 has the same head as the 2.6 cast that day; 3.0 has the same head as the 2.5. Usable from autumn through to early spring.
Why purple works — a hypothesis. Water absorbs red light first; the shorter the wavelength, blue to violet, the deeper it travels. In autumn the summer murk clears, and with the sun lower the light entering the water is weaker and skewed towards the short end. Purple sits on the side that keeps its colour longest in what light remains, and a UV-reactive finish (UV Red Purple) takes invisible ultraviolet and gives back visible light, adding a step of brightness to the silhouette in dim water. Squid are thought to see by contrast rather than by colour, so what matters is that the egi “stands out” against a dark background. That is our reading.
The JetChaser was designed for shallow water of 10 to 20 metres, fished on light tackle, for the good bigfin reef squid holding on the bottom. Shore fishing sits on the same line, and the brief already anticipated that the fast sink would pay off on high platforms and in fast current. That the hit came from a place that was high, deep and with the tide moving lines up with what was intended.
The Lure's Role
JetChaser
Sizes 2.5 (20g) and 2.6 (22g), joined this autumn by 3.0 (22g) and 3.1 (24g) — four in all. The body is hard urethane foam, a material that is difficult to mass-produce, and it is that high buoyancy which makes the tension-stay posture possible. The crown is KS06 — the one normally fitted to size 3.5 and 4.0 — carried on a size 2.5 body.A tiny body, a high-buoyancy material, a purpose-designed crown hook. When these three depend on one another, they produce an action and a fall balance you have never experienced.
Every advantage Tsutsumi names comes back to the pairing of weight and buoyancy. The weight keeps the egi settled and the distance up into a headwind or a crosswind. The fast sink makes the bottom easy to feel, which is what keeps the snags down and the tempo high. The buoyancy holds the posture, so you can wait with the line tight. The hit came on size 2.6 in Red Aji Orange, on exactly that tension-fall wait.
From the Workshop in Arita
The egi used in this video are genuine made-in-Japan products, crafted at KEYSTONE's own factory in Arita, Saga Prefecture — the town of Arita porcelain. We put our soul into each and every egi.
Size 2.5, around 20g. Into that small body goes the hook normally fitted to size 3.5–4.0. And the JetChaser, balanced to allow an aggressive action, is made in Arita.
MADE TODAY IN ARITA
The sequence above is what this video records: Keystone evangelist Tsutsumi walks through shore tip-run in four minutes and fifty-two seconds. Take the bottom once, five or six jerks and slide sideways — “active squid follow it up, so there's no need to find the bottom again” — right through to the hit on size 2.6 in Red Aji Orange, waiting on a tension fall.
