EgiSharp comes in three sizes: 3.5 and 3.8, plus the size 4.3 EgiSharp Alpha. For autumn, the one to reach for is the 3.5 — its crisp, sharp darting works on autumn squid that chase the egi. On this day the 3.5 was fished through Galaxy Glow Purple, Gold Aji Base Pink and Red Base Pink, working a change in the bottom, the ebb after high water and, at the end, a tide line; to finish, “a slightly better size” took the Red Base Pink at dusk.
What EgiSharp is
EgiSharp combines a sharp form in high-buoyancy rigid urethane foam with a sinker that produces crisp action and the purpose-developed KS06 hook. It comes in three sizes: 3.5 and 3.8, plus the size 4.3 EgiSharp Alpha. At dusk in autumn, this day was fished on the 3.5 throughout. Galaxy Glow Purple searched a change in the bottom; at a spot moved to for the ebb after high water, one squid came on Gold Aji Base Pink. When the bites faded, a change to Red Base Pink brought the second. Last of all, the “slightly better size” that was holding on a tide line took the Red Base Pink at dusk.

Three sizes, and why 3.5 in autumn
Broadly, EgiSharp comes in three sizes: 3.5, 3.8, and the EgiSharp Alpha’s 4.3. Fall rates run to four grades for the 3.5 and 3.8 — V0 (ultra-slow fall), V0+ (slow fall), V1 (standard fall) and V2 (fast fall) — and three for the 4.3, V0, V0+ and V1; the 3.5 V1 weighs 17 g. For autumn the recommendation is the 3.5: it darts crisply and sharply, which works on autumn squid that chase the egi. When targeting summer and autumn squid, this 3.5 is the size used most often. Because the body is rigid urethane foam, resistance is low: it moves well with little force and is highly controllable. You can jerk it from morning to night without tiring much, and it is easy to tell which layer the current is running in — you feel the weight of the tide easily. That is this egi’s character.
The day’s three colours come from three different families. Galaxy Glow Purple is from the Galaxy colours, Gold Aji Base Pink from the Metallic colours, and Red Base Pink from the Basic colours — a red base on the belly, with a back shading from pink to purple. Red Base Pink, which took the final squid, is listed as a colour recommended for dusk and night.
The Lure's Role
EgiSharp
EgiSharp draws high-buoyancy rigid urethane foam into a sharp form and carries the dedicated KS06 hook. Size 3.5 has a track record in every season, from autumn numbers to large springtime bigfin reef squid, and V1 (17 g) is the standard fall. Crisp action becomes sharpness in the dart, and low resistance becomes controllability and the sensitivity to feel the current. Autumn means size 3.5. Sharp darts to make them chase, and colour to change how the egi is shown.
The day’s plan was to fix the size at 3.5 and move the location and the colour. Choose a spot with a change in the bottom, and take the squid holding around sunken rocks and structure first. Move with the ebb after high water, and one squid on Gold Aji Base Pink. When the bites faded, a change to Red Base Pink brought the second — “by then it was down to colour choice”, as the words on the day put it: staying on the same 3.5 and changing only the colour changed the answer. Finally, the tide line. At dusk, a squid that was in the tide line took the Red Base Pink. “Dusk really is strong” — Red Base Pink for dusk and night was the day’s conclusion.
