【Spring Tide Full Moon x Raging Current】Conquering Saikai Breakwaters with the JetChaser No.2.6!
October spring-tide full moon in Saikai City. A tough-condition breakwater with a high foothold and a fiercely fast current, fully conquered by the weight of the JetChaser No.2.6 (22g). From the first hit on Red Aji Orange, to back-to-back catches on Ruru Purple, to the nighttime results of two glow colors. A field report where I experienced the true essence of shore tip-run.
Field Conditions & Setting
Area
A breakwater facing the open sea in Saikai City, Nagasaki. An outstanding tide-flow, raging-current spot.
Season
Early October. Autumn eging is in full swing, with a big spring-tide full moon.
Tide
Spring tide, full moon. The tide moves strongly, with many time windows of very fast current.
Foothold Height
The breakwater has a high foothold, about 3–4 m above the water surface. Line-tension management is crucial.
Tough-Condition Strategy — Why the No.2.6?
This field presented two major tough conditions: "high foothold" x "fast current." With an ordinary egi you cannot reach the bottom, and you cannot even tell when you get a bite.
That is why I chose the JetChaser No.2.6 (22g).
- Its 22g weight lets you reach the bottom quickly even in a raging current
- You can maintain line tension even from a high foothold and reliably catch bites
- It resists the effects of wind, enabling precise depth control
- Its shore tip-run design keeps its posture stable even in a raging current
Even in situations where an ordinary No.2.5 (20g) would be swept away, the weight of the No.2.6 becomes an absolute advantage. It is precisely under tough conditions that the true value of a heavy egi is put to the test.
Tackle Used & Setting
- Rod: dedicated eging rod 8.3 ft (shore tip-run compatible model)
- Reel: spinning reel, size 3000
- Line: PE No.0.8 + fluorocarbon leader No.2.5
- Egi: JetChaser No.2.6 (22g)
- Colors: Red Aji Orange, Ruru Purple, Galaxy Glow Purple, Galaxy Glow Green
Color Rotation & Hit Patterns
Pattern 1: First Hit — Red Aji Orange
At dawn (mazume), during a time window when the raging current was running, I cast Red Aji Orange. With its intense red x orange appeal color, it has outstanding visibility even in murky tide.
After the cast, the 22g weight reached all the way to the bottom in one go. On the fall after two or three short jerks, a solid bite came in. I caught the bite firmly even in the current and landed the first hit.
Pattern 2: Back-to-Back Catches — Ruru Purple
After the first hit, I rotated to Ruru Purple. Purple colors have high visibility for autumn bigfin reef squid (aori-ika), and highly active individuals respond well.
When I worked the mid-water slowly at the moment the tide eased, bites came one after another. I brought it into a pattern of back-to-back catches, and it became the day's main color.
Pattern 3: Nighttime Glow Colors — Galaxy Glow Purple & Green
After sunset, on the bright full-moon night, it was time for the glow colors. I rotated the two colors Galaxy Glow Purple and Galaxy Glow Green.
The full-moon light made the glow effect stand out; the purple offered flashy appeal and the green a natural glow, each drawing bites. Using the colors differently at night directly translated into results.
Hit Pattern Analysis — Color x Time of Day
Dawn (mazume, raging current)
Red Aji Orange
Conquers murky tide x raging current with an intense appeal color. Lands the first hit.
Daytime (when the tide eases)
Ruru Purple
Selects highly active individuals with a purple color for back-to-back catches. The main pattern.
Nighttime (full moon)
Galaxy Glow Purple & Green
The full-moon brightness makes the glow effect stand out, with proven results from rotating the two colors.
The rotation of four colors fully adapted to the changes in time of day and tide. The rich color lineup of the JetChaser No.2.6 produced results in every situation.

Field Characteristics
High foothold x fast current x spring-tide full moon — a triple-trouble tough condition
Key to the Strategy
Conquer the raging current with 22g of weight; don't miss the feeding window through color rotation
Summary: It Is Under Tough Conditions That the True Value of a Heavy Egi Is Tested
October spring-tide full moon at the Saikai City breakwater. The triple-trouble tough condition of a high foothold and a fiercely fast current was fully conquered by the JetChaser No.2.6 (22g).
The 22g weight reaches the bottom quickly even in a raging current and maintains line tension even from a high foothold. It is an overwhelming advantage that forces down, by sheer power, situations that would be impossible to attack with an ordinary egi.
And the rotation of four colors fully adapted to the changes in time of day and tide.
At the raging dawn (mazume), a first hit on Red Aji Orange.
When the tide eased in daytime, back-to-back catches on Ruru Purple.
Under the nighttime full moon, night-fishing results with Galaxy Glow Purple & Green.
In shore tip-run, "how you conquer tough conditions" is what divides the results.
The weight and color variation of the JetChaser No.2.6 delivered answers in every situation.
Spring Tide Full Moon x Raging Current Q&A
Q. Why is the JetChaser No.2.6 effective on high-foothold breakwaters?
A. Thanks to its 22g weight, you can reach the bottom quickly even from a high foothold. It resists the effects of wind and keeps line tension easy to maintain, so you catch bites reliably. Its posture stays stable even in a raging current, enabling precise depth control.
Q. What should you keep in mind during a spring-tide full moon?
A. During time windows when the tide moves strongly, the current becomes especially fast. It is important not to miss the short feeding window around the tide change and to reach the bottom quickly with a heavy egi. Because the full-moon night is bright, the effect of glow colors shows up clearly.
Q. Why could you land back-to-back catches on Ruru Purple?
A. Purple colors have high visibility for autumn bigfin reef squid (aori-ika), and highly active individuals tend to react easily. Ruru Purple offers moderate contrast and is effective in both murky and clear water. Continuing to use it as a proven color after the first hit paid off.
Q. How do you use the two Galaxy Glow colors differently?
A. Galaxy Glow Purple offers flashy appeal, while Green gives off a natural glow, and we use them differently. On a bright full-moon night the glow effect stands out, and it shows its power during dark hours and in murky tide. We rotate them to gauge the reaction.
Q. What are the tips for action in a raging current?
A. In a raging current, the short jerk x tension fall is the basic approach. Adjust the posture with two or three short jerks, then let it fall while keeping line tension. The strength of the No.2.6 is that its 22g weight keeps the bottom, and even if it gets swept away you can recover instantly.
