[JetEging for Big Autumn Squid]
Cracking the September Over-1kg Pattern — JetChaser No.2.6 Shore Tip-Run Field Report
JetEging for big autumn bigfin reef squid (aori-ika) at a current-rich spot in the Goto-nada area. A field report on establishing a chase-and-catch pattern with the JetChaser No.2.6 in Titanium Chocolat and landing an over-1kg squid.
Facing Big Autumn Bigfin Reef Squid in the Goto-nada Area
In late September, as the autumn eging season was ramping up in earnest, I headed to a current-rich spot in the Goto-nada area. Known for the runs of big bigfin reef squid (aori-ika) that pass through at this time of year, this area is a prime field for anyone chasing over-1kg fish.
My weapon this time was the newly released JetChaser No.2.6. Despite its ultra-compact size, this egi (squid jig) carries a weight of 22 g, making it ideally suited to shore-based tip-run eging. What stands out most is how directly it lets you attack the bottom range.
Titanium Chocolat Shows Its Power
The tide that day was a medium tide. I started fishing at dawn (mazume), first carefully working the bottom around structure changes. The depth ran along the 7–10 m line. Making the most of the JetChaser No.2.6's weight, I fished while reliably keeping contact with the bottom.
The Hit Pattern I Established
- Immediately after touchdown, six short-pitch jerks in quick succession
- The sharp action grabs the squid's interest
- Several squid punches come during the fall
- Let them chase, then finally hook up solidly
This pattern came together almost comically well, with the bites concentrated on the Titanium Chocolat color. A natural-toned color, yet its appeal underwater was outstanding.
New Possibilities for Shore Tip-Run
The JetChaser No.2.6's signature "jet-like fall" was a perfect match for this style of fishing. Its greatest strength is being able to approach big squid lurking on the bottom quickly.
Shore Tip-Run Technique
Unlike ordinary eging, shore tip-run using the JetChaser involves:
- Quick touchdown after the cast: the 22 g weight punches down to the bottom without losing to the current
- Sharp jerks with short strokes: nimble action that makes the most of the compact body
- Chase and catch: a sure hook-set only after confirming the squid punch
Reading Current-Rich Spots Where Big Squid Run
What decided the results in the Goto-nada area was spot selection. The conditions for big bigfin reef squid to come through on their run were:
- Good current flow where baitfish tend to gather
- Reef edges and drop-offs in 7–10 m of water
- Areas with changes in the tidal flow
- The boundary between weed beds and sandy bottom
At spots meeting these conditions, reliably sinking the JetChaser No.2.6 all the way to the bottom and starting the action the moment it touched down proved to be the shortcut to results.
Wrapping Up the September Over-1kg Pattern
What this field session proved is that the JetChaser No.2.6 is an egi capable of establishing a whole new style: shore tip-run. Especially when targeting big autumn fish, its performance is on full display.
This Session's Catch Data
- Area: Around Goto-nada
- Season: Late September
- Egi used: JetChaser No.2.6
- Hit color: Titanium Chocolat
- Depth: 7–10 m
- Results: Over-1kg catch (up to 1.3 kg)
Having nailed down a clear pattern — six short-pitch jerks after touchdown — I was able to fish with high repeatability. The "chase and catch" style of setting the hook only after feeling the squid punch is a way of fishing unique to the JetChaser.
The New Eging the JetChaser Opens Up
The JetChaser overturns conventional eging wisdom. Despite its compact No.2.6 size, its 22 g weight makes tip-run-style fishing possible even from shore.
Especially when targeting big autumn fish, the ability to attack the bottom directly is a huge advantage. A result like this session's over-1kg catch speaks to its true capability.
