A traditional "floating sutte (uki-sutte)," made the traditional way with "blow molding." The purely Japan-made floating sutte, "VivinSutte." Backed by KeyStone's complete mastery of the technical know-how of "blow molding," it is a trusted "floating sutte (uki-sutte)" that we have supplied to forward-thinking fishermen for more than 20 years. The overwhelming difference in catch rates comes from a stable, thick-walled body of domestic quality and the buoyancy of a consistent internal pressure.
When targeting "spear squid (yari-ika)" and "swordtip squid (kensaki-ika)" from a boat, or going after "Japanese common squid (surume-ika)," the "floating sutte (uki-sutte)" is essential gear. Producing floating sutte with minimal variation using traditional blow molding is an extremely difficult technique. If the wall thickness is uneven, the body is crushed by water pressure and becomes useless. Since our founding, KeyStone has insisted on domestic production and blow molding. To handle squid fishing all across Japan, we designed a thick-walled body rated for depths down to 200 m. To meet a wide range of requests, we offer many choices of base color, cloth type and cloth color. Faithful to the fundamentals, each and every piece is finished to the highest standard with care. At our factory in Arita-cho, Saga Prefecture, we handle everything in-house — from design and mold molding to product molding — continuing to make high-quality, meticulously crafted sutte.
For over 20 years since 1999, we have supplied high-quality, low-variation "floating sutte (uki-sutte)" mainly to fisheries cooperatives (squid-fishing professionals). Preferred sizes and base body colors differ by region, so to meet every request, another hallmark is our exceptionally rich lineup of sizes and specifications. Seven sizes alone. Two base colors. Sixteen cloth colors. The balance that forward-thinking fishermen demand of a sutte is, just as with bait-wrapped sutte, held to extremely exacting standards — and thanks to that, over these roughly 20 years we have been able to earn tremendous trust.

・TV2 hook (standard) The TV2 is commonly known as "tegusu-wound" or "hand-wound." By fixing the squid hook with tegusu (line), it keeps the floating sutte lightweight. The TV2 is a traditional specification for maintaining the floating sutte's balance at its best, and many fishermen use floating sutte with this spec. In particular, when fishermen targeting spear squid (yari-ika) and swordtip squid (kensaki-ika) practice barrel-drift fishing, they pay great attention to the balance of the floating sutte, so most adopt floating sutte fitted with the TV2. The buoyancy balance of the VivinSutte equipped with the TV2 accommodates various dropper (edasu) lengths and is also widely used for general boat fishing targeting spear squid and swordtip squid. ・R2 hook (made to order as a special build when ordering) If specified at the time of order, we can also build it with the R2 hook. Compared with the TV2 hook, the hook is slightly heavier, so underwater the hook rides a little below horizontal — but by using that extra weight, the up-and-down sway becomes more dynamic. The R2-spec hook is sturdier than the TV2 spec, so it is recommended when durability is required, such as for direct-tie rigs. For a swing (buranco) rig with an extended dropper, a length of 1–5 cm is recommended.
Among the many VivinSutte colors, the popular ones are wrapped in metallic cloth. However, it can sometimes be torn by the teeth of pufferfish or squid. When it gets torn, many people assume it looks bad and probably won't catch anymore. In that case, just cut the metallic cloth off with scissors! Once you remove the metallic cloth, the underlying normal cloth appears, and you can use it again in its normal-cloth state. If it gets torn, please give this a try. * Please proceed carefully so as not to cut the sewing thread that holds the cloth in place.
