Monsters Are
Real.
EgiOita PlaPla®
Land big squid with big egi.
Scene 01
Why Big Egi
Work on Monsters
Monsters of the 2kg and 3kg class want to conserve their strength.
Rather than chasing darting baitfish, they choose large, slow-moving prey. The bigfin reef squid (aori-ika) lives only about a year; saving its final strength for spawning, it has no energy to waste.
The energy of chasing small prey over and over, versus the energy of taking one large prey in a single strike.
For a monster that seeks efficiency, big egi become the most natural target of all.

That is the one truth that hasn't changed in 20 years.

Target Only the Monsters
Standard egi top out at No.3.5, and even No.4.0 is hard to find.
Within the school, the hungriest small squid grab first - so you can never single out the monster class.
Big egi of No.4.5 and up naturally filter out squid under 1kg, leaving you to face only the 2kg and 3kg monsters.
The No.7.0 (81g) egi - and the over-4kg monsters that crush its hooks truly exist.
An overwhelming size - this is the presence of the No.7.0

How to Outsmart the
Wary Monster Class
During the near-shore spawning season, the monster class is extremely wary - and remarkably clever.
Aggressive jerking backfires.A slow bottom stay and small darting action is what works.
Only a large egi has the weight and balance to make such a delicate presentation possible.
Work the No.7.0 (81g) egi with finesse. A shape refined to the extreme, and a weight balance calculated down to the last detail. Big, yet it swims naturally - that is the true worth that lands monsters.
Large egi are vanishing from the market.
Yet KEYSTONE keeps making them.

The Legendary No.7.0
Returns at Last
The EgiOita PlaPla series now marks 20 years since its release.
Built on the belief that you land big squid with big egi, its light, rhythmic action - unexpected for its size - has become an essential item for big-squid hunters.
November 2025 - the legendary big egi that once swept the market, the No.7.0 is finally back. Its 81g mass tames the wind, holds the tide lines, and takes on the monster class alone.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Which size of EgiOita PlaPla should I choose?
Choose according to the size of squid you're targeting. For the 1-2kg class we recommend No.4.5 (31g); for the 2-3kg class, No.5.0 (41g); and for the monster class over 3kg, No.7.0 (81g). The larger the egi, the more it filters out small squid, letting you take on only the big ones.
What kind of rod can I use with the No.7.0 egi?
An MH-H class eging rod rated for 81g works well, and seabass or shore-jigging rods can handle it too. Because it has weight, your line is less affected by the wind even on windy days, giving you stable, controlled action.
Do you sell the No.6.0?
The No.6.0 (61g) is currently discontinued. We offer three sizes - No.4.5, No.5.0 and No.7.0. The No.7.0 returned to sale in November 2025.
