[Aka-Samurai's Blazing Field Report] Vol.1 Rugged Rocky Shore × Deep Tip-Run — The Stability of the JetChaser MT Three-Tier Umbrella Hooks

A February moonless night — shore eging from a rugged rocky shore in the north, and then deep tip-run off Naha. In two utterly different fields, the prototype JetChaser MT's three-tier umbrella hooks delivered overwhelming stability. Once you hook up, you never lose them — a design philosophy proven here with field data.

Why Three-Tier Umbrella Hooks?

Conventional egi are dominated by two-tier hooks. But on a raging-current rocky shore or in deep tip-run, losing squid to their fierce jet propulsion was a persistent problem.

The prototype JetChaser MT is our answer to that problem.

Three-tier umbrella hooks — but we did not simply add more hooks. Through high-balance design, we raised holding power alone, without sacrificing fall posture or darting performance.

The Advantages of Three-Tier Umbrella Hooks × High-Balance Design

  • More hooking points — abundant places to hook, catching even short bites reliably
  • Improved holding power — a three-tier configuration that resists coming loose even under fierce jet propulsion
  • Stable posture — high-balance design that does not compromise fall and darting action
  • Versatility — from shore fishing on a rugged rocky shore to deep tip-run, it works in any field

Field Session (1) Shore Fishing — A Northern Rocky Shore, the Raging Current of a Moonless Night

Date & Time

February 20 Moonless night, mid tide

Field

Northern rugged rocky shore Shore eging from land

Depth & Tide

Depth 10 m Raging-current spot

Egi Used

JetChaser MT (prototype)

A moonless-night rocky shore. At my feet, the raging current swirls. I cast toward a spot in 10 m of water.

On this day, rather than a normal fall, a vertical drop was the trigger. The JetChaser MT plunges straight down from above like a meteor — and the squid, unable to resist, chase it. Individuals that would see through a normal tension fall react instinctively to the speed change of a fast vertical drop. This is a phenomenon you often see in boat fishing too, and I feel it works on the same principle as when nothing comes on the jerk, yet a squid nails it the instant you switch to a straight retrieve.

The key is the moment the current eases. Reading a fleeting shift in the raging current, I do a short jerk out of the vertical drop. Focused on the rod tip — thunk. A weighty bite.

To keep the squid from burrowing into the rocky-shore structure, I lift forcefully. The squid's fierce jet propulsion travels up the line, but the three-tier umbrella hooks hold firm. No fear of losing it. I land it in one go.

The line-abrasion risk unique to a rugged rocky shore and the tension swings caused by the raging current. In a scene where conventional two-tier hooks might have lost the squid, the stability of the three-tier umbrella hooks shone.

Field Session (2) Deep Tip-Run — Off Naha, the Spring Tide of a Moonless Night

Date & Time

February 16 Moonless night, spring tide

Field

Off Naha Deep tip-run

Method

Standing at the bow, riding the current and jerking away

Results

First squid at sunrise, second squid in the early afternoon

The spring tide off Naha. Standing at the bow, I ride the current and jerk away, focusing every nerve on the rod tip.

As the sun rose, a strange sensation reached the rod tip — the first squid. The fierce jet propulsion of a squid coming up from deep water travels through the rod. Normally, this is the scene where fierce resistance raises the risk of losing the fish. But the three-tier umbrella hooks hold firm across multiple hooking points. It doesn't get away.

Then, in the early afternoon, another bite at the rod tip — the second squid.

Even in the long-distance fight unique to deep tip-run, the stability of the three-tier umbrella hooks never wavers. Once you hook up, you never lose them — the JetChaser MT's design philosophy was proven in this field too.

Proven in Two Fields — The True Value of the Three-Tier Umbrella Hooks

Shore Fishing × Rocky Shore

10 m depth, raging current, line-abrasion risk
Read the instant the current eases and catch reliably with the three-tier umbrella hooks

Deep Tip-Run × Off Naha

Spring tide, fierce jet propulsion, long-distance fight
With multiple hooking points, once you hook up you never lose them

What these two utterly different fields share is "tough conditions where squid are easily lost." Delivering results in both — the three-tier umbrella hooks × high-balance design — this is the JetChaser MT's answer.

Aka-Samurai's Analysis — Why the "Vertical Drop" Works

What I felt strongly during this shore session is that a vertical drop works overwhelmingly better than a normal fall.

Squid that see through the usual jerk-and-fall are unable to resist chasing an egi that drops from above like a meteor. This is a phenomenon you often see in boat fishing too.

Thinking back, I have had experiences where nothing came on the jerk, yet a squid nailed it the instant I switched to a straight retrieve. Many of the squid chasing an egi see through the usual jerk and fall. But they react to the speed of a fast retrieve on the pickup — it is the same principle.

In other words, precisely when there is no response on a normal drop, the speed change of a fast vertical drop works. It is another drawer to reach into, one that flips the switch back on for squid that have already seen through you. The JetChaser MT's weight and high-balance design let you achieve this vertical drop with a stable posture.

Conclusion: Once You Hook Up, You Never Lose Them

On the moonless-night rocky shore in the north, striking the fleeting instant the current eases within the raging flow. In deep tip-run off Naha, standing at the bow, jerking away, focused on the rod tip.

In both scenes, the JetChaser MT's three-tier umbrella hooks gave the same answer.

Once you hook up, you never lose them.
Three-tier umbrella hooks, yet a high-balance design. It sacrifices neither fall posture nor darting. It raises holding power alone, overwhelmingly. That is the JetChaser MT.

Field testing with the prototype continues. We will announce release information on our official website as soon as it is decided.

JetChaser MT Q&A

Q. What are the JetChaser MT's three-tier umbrella hooks?

A. In contrast to conventional two-tier hooks, this prototype model is fitted with a three-tier umbrella-hook configuration. Its high-balance design dramatically improves holding power after you hook a squid. Even in situations where squid are easily lost — raging currents, rugged rocky shores — it delivers the stability to keep them once hooked.

Q. Why is the JetChaser MT effective for shore fishing on a rugged rocky shore?

A. At a raging-current spot in 10 m of water, you need a precise approach that reads the instant the current eases. The JetChaser MT keeps a stable posture even in strong current, and the three-tier umbrella hooks set reliably. Even amid the line-abrasion risk unique to a rugged rocky shore, its high holding power raises the catch rate.

Q. How effective are the three-tier umbrella hooks in deep tip-run?

A. Tip-run in deep water carries a high risk of losing fish because of the strong resistance from a squid's jet propulsion. Because the three-tier umbrella hooks have many hooking points, they withstand even fierce jet propulsion, giving you the stability to keep a squid once it is hooked. Our field session off Naha proved that performance.

Q. When will the JetChaser MT go on sale?

A. We are currently accumulating field tests with the prototype. We will announce the release timing on our official website and social media as soon as it is decided. Please check the Keystone official website for the latest information.
